Michael Rooker Joins Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Michael Rooker has a bit of free time on his hands now that his role as Merle has come to an end on AMC’s massive hit The Walking Dead. It looks as though Marvel has taken notice of his impressive acting chops and signed him on to one of their next projects.
Deadline is reporting that Rooker has joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy. He’ll be playing the role of Yondu, a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV, the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun’s solar system. Eventually, he bands together with the other band of fugitives to form the super hero team. Rooker will be joining Chris Pratt (StarLord), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) and Zoe Saldana (Gamora). Still to be cast is Rocket Raccoon and Groot, both of which will likely be CGI characters…I hope.
Rooker, as mentioned above, really made the most of his character on The Walking Dead and wowed a lot of viewers with his performance. He’s no stranger to big films either, as he’s had roles in Mississippi Burning, Days of Thunder, JFK and Tombstone. Disney has set and August 2014 release date for the film, which James Gunn is directing. Filming is expected to begins soon.
