Michael Douglas Cast As Hank Pym In ANT-MAN
File this under incredibly shocking news- Marvel has just revealed that two-time Academy Award-winner Michael Douglas has been cast as Hank Pym in Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man. Marvel dropped the bomb themselves on their own website. They’ve been doing that a lot lately with big casting news, and this one is definitely the biggest one they’ve ever announced on their own. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said of Douglas‘ casting “With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.“
Douglas is hot off a win at the Golden Globes for his role as Liberace in the biopic Behind the Candelabra. It’s surprising that Marvel snagged Douglas for the role of Pym, though they did nab Robert Redford for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Marvel has been getting high caliber actor after high caliber actor but this one is definitely the most surprising. It has also been confirmed that Paul Rudd will indeed be playing Scott Lang in the film. This lines up with the earlier reports that Pym would be a hero in the 1960s and Lang would steal the Ant-Man gear in a twist to the To Steal An Ant-Man story. Hopefully we hear more about Douglas‘ role as Hank Pym, and how Marvel were able to sign the actor, soon. This also gives a little explanation about why Pym won’t be Ultron‘s creator in Avengers: Age of Ultron. What do you think about Douglas being cast as an older Hank Pym? Ant-Man will hit theaters July 31, 2015.
