Yesterday the story came out that Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt had written a 40 to 50 page treatment for Episode VII and possibly the entire new trilogy and would probably write the movie. Now we have confirmation on that.
StarWars.Com in league with Disney and Lucasfilm released the following statement announcing Arndt’s involvement.
Michael Arndt to Write Screenplay for Star Wars: Episode VII
November 09, 2012
As pre-production of Star Wars: Episode VII begins, Lucasfilm has confirmed that award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay for the new Star Wars film. As revealed in the ongoing video series posted here on StarWars.com, Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas have begun story conferences with Arndt. Arndt won an Academy Award® for Best Original Screenplay for writing Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing Toy Story 3 (2010).
Now that a writer is in place, it won’t be too long before more announcements along the lines of casting and plot details start coming out, especially since the film is planned for a 2015 release. What do you think about Arndt writing now that it’s official?
