MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Reboot To Get A Re-Write From Jeff Wadlow
It seems like forever ago when it was announced that Columbia would be rebooting the He-Man franchise. Ever since then, the film has been stuck in various levels of development hell. Jon M. Chu, who revived the GI Joe franchise into a more viable and substantial product, was attached to helm the reboot. However, he eventually dropped out of the project. The studio has a shortlist of directors in mind, but as of yet, no one is attached.
Today, we’ve learned that a re-write of the script is happening and they’ve tapped Kick-Ass 2 writer and director Jeff Wadlow to handle the task. Bringing on a new scribe suggests that the script is far from ready, so don’t expect production or casting to begin any time soon. Don’t be surprised to see Wadlow’s name in the mix when it comes time to bring a director on board. Wadlow is currently working on an X-Force script for Fox.
Wadlow is an interesting choice to bring on, as he doesn’t really have a specific genre that he’s known for. Kick-Ass 2 was a so-so sequel, meaning it was better than expected. Prior to that, he was known for helming the fighter flick Never Back Down. Having a script like X-Force on your resume isn’t a bad thing either.
