Mary Jane Role in Amazing Spider-Man Sequel Will Be Minimal; Gwen’s Death More Likely?

News broke not long ago that Shailene Woodley, the break-out star from the acclaimed Descendants, was in talks for the role of Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming sequel to Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Its been speculated by not only fans, but by Emma Stone, who plays the role of Gwen in the franchise, that her character may be going the way of the buffalo in the sequel. Those of us who are Spidey fans know that Gwen eventually meets her demise in the comics, so we know it’s only inevitable in these films.
While reporting a story that says Woodley is up for the lead role in the upcominc Divergent film series, The Hollywood Reporter dropped a bit of news that states the role of Mary Jane would only be a small part in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. It seems more and more likely that Gwen will indeed be killed off in this second film, with MJ showing up in a smaller role towards the end of the film and coming into Peter’s life. You can expect Harry Osborne to show up as well, as a casting call was sent out to fill that role as well. At this point, it is all just speculation and once filming starts next year, we may have a better idea of the direction of the film.
