MarveL NOW! Adds Avengers Arena Plus First Look At AvX Consequences #1

Marvel NOW! will see the launch of a new book featuring the youth of the Marvel Universe in a sweet, coming of age story that sees them all…trying to kill each other! The first graduating class of the Avengers Academy and the Runaways among a few other groups will be thrown into a deathtrap by Arcade. The 16 young heroes will be thrown on the island of Murder World where writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Kev Walker will compose all the mayhem to follow. Besides the cover to issue 1, the duo and editor Bill Rosemann spoke with Marvel about the series. You can read the full interview by clicking here. Hopeless talks about the premise:

Yeah, Arcade has spent a lot of years building “Murder Worlds” that yield very few actual murders. He’s decided it’s time to get back a little self-respect. It’s time for a new kind of Murder World. AVENGERS ARENA is about the unlucky kids he’s chosen to help him try it out.

Here is what editor Rosemann and writer Hopeless had to say about the 16 participant and how they went about choosing them:

Rosemann: Fans of AVENGERS ACADEMY will hopefully be excited by the next chapter in the lives of Hazmat, Mettle, Reptil, Juston and his Sentinel and X-23. Speaking of schools, who are the Braddock Academy? After his last appearances in War of Kings and NOVA, Darkhawk soars again! Staying with sci-fi, just wait until you see what Dennis and Kev have planned for Annihilation’s Cammi, baddest girl in all the galaxy. And last but certainly not least, direct from the pages of the dearly missed RUNAWAYS, we have Chase and Nico!

Hopeless: We really got to cherry pick our cast. That was a lot of fun, almost as much fun as creating the brand new characters. I have a feeling the Braddock Academy kids in particular are going to break some hearts. Not sure if we made it clear yet, but people die in this book.

Also Today saw the reveal of an unlettered preview to the post AvX story Avengers Vs. X-Men: Consequences. The weekly five issue series will be written by Kieron Gillen and will feature five different artists. The story takes place after AvX and shows how everyone will fair after the dust settles. The series kicks off October 10th.
