Marvel Movie Roundup: Vin Diesel Talks Groot, Phase 3 Teased, Tony Will Help Lead The Avengers, And More
It’s time for another edition of Marvel Movie Roundup. Marvel Studios has a lot going on, and we’ve rounded up a few stories from around the web all in one convenient location. Today we have Vin Diesel talking more about Groot and possibly working on something for Phase 3. We also have Louis D’Esposito talking about Tony Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron and what he thinks about all the Iron Man 3 Mandarin backlash. Strap in and read on for more.
Vin Diesel must have fought off an entire army of Marvel mercenaries. The actor has been talking a lot about his meetings with Marvel and how he ended up getting the role of Groot in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. The actor recently sat down with Maria Menounos and chatted with her on her YouTube show (via SMN). All the Marvel talk starts at the 50 minute mark. Diesel talks about teasing fans at Comic-Con, how he landed the Groot role (thanks to the Iron Giant), and how his children influenced his decision to be the giant tree who only says one line of dialogue. It turns out a big part of his decision had to do with the concept art Marvel sent him. Diesel talks about being very visual and how he needs pictures and concept art to chose his roles. Most intriguing of all is his comments about that Phase 3 project he could be working on. When Diesel admitted he was Groot, he said he had originally went in to talk to Marvel about a bigger movie that could potentially kick off Phase 3 in 2016/2017. The actor makes it sound like that project is still on the table even though it will be way down the line. He called it a “merging of brands.” It’s an incredible interview and Diesel opens up as much as he can and even more than he has.
Louis D’Esposito, who we recently talked about in a potential female superhero film (click here for that), recently talked to IGN about Iron Man 3. Marvel’s Co-President was asked the big question- what was up with the Ben Kingsley Mandarin twist? D’Esosito says he was actually really surprised by the outrage, but he thinks the box office proved they made the right decision. These clips are shorter than Diesel‘s chat, so I’ll just let you watch them in their entirety in the video below.
He also hints at where we’ll find Tony when Avengers: Age of Ultron rolls around. While they’re still nailing down where he’ll be emotionally, D’Esposito does confirm that he and Captain America will be co-leaders of The Avengers. You can hear all the Tony teasers in the video below.
So there you go. Vin Diesel continues to defy the Marvel mercenaries who take down any actor that says too much, Tony Stark will lead The Avengers alongside Cap, and Marvel was really surprised we didn’t like The Mandarin. That’s another Marvel Movie Roundup in the bag. What do you think about the latest goings on?
