MARVEL Has Movie Plans Through 2028; New Heroes And Spinoff Movies Coming Out Of AGE OF ULTRON
We knew that Marvel Studios had big movie plans for the future, but today we’ve gotten an idea about just how big those plans truly are. Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios crew, and Disney‘s Bob Iger have tipped their hand slightly in a massive new interview with Bloomberg Businessweek where it was revealed that Marvel has some very long term plans. In addition, new heroes will be popping up and possibly getting their own solo films after Avengers: Age of Ultron is all said and done.
In the Bloomberg piece, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is given the credit he so rightly deserves for being the mastermind and captain of the Marvel movie ship. While talking about his vision for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Feige let slip that Marvel has some plans in place that go all the way through the year 2028:
There’s a map of films reaching far into the next decade on the wall of Feige’s office. “It’s like looking through the Hubble telescope. You go, ‘What’s happening back there? I can sort of see it,’ ” he laughs. “They printed out a new one recently that went to 2028.”
We had heard a few months back that things had been sketched up all the way through 2020, but now it appears that list has been updated and a few more years have been added to the master plan. While this doesn’t necessarily mean Marvel has a list of movies they’ll be putting out over the next 14 years, it does mean they have a rough idea of where they want things to go.
Part of those future plans will be realized in Joss Whedon‘s Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron. We know that Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) will be introduced in the film, but Bob Iger makes it sound like we can expect to see a few more new faces in the film as well. Those new characters might even get their own solo films too:
Iger and Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, recently met with the Marvel team to talk about new heroes who will be introduced in Age of Ultron and could be spun off in their own films as well. Iger declines to name them. “The possibilities are endless,” he says.
Ms. Marvel has been one of those new heroes that have been rumored for an appearance in the highly-anticipated film, and there have also been some rumblings that Black Panther could pop up as well. Those would be two characters that could carry their own solo efforts, but only time will tell what happens. Marvel has expressed interest in bringing those two characters into the live-action fold, so it would make a lot of sense. With filming going on for Avengers: Age of Ultron, we could hear about the new arrivals fairly soon. What do you think about the 2028 news? Any guesses on who the new characters could be?
