Marvel Makes A Move Towards CAPTAIN AMERICA 3
In just a few days, we’re expecting to see a brand new trailer for Marvel’s next installment in their Phase 2 of films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film, which has been described as a nod towards 1970’s espionage movies, brings Captain America to the modern era and examines how he has to deal with the sudden change in how he goes about life: new allies, new enemies and an extremely blurred line between the two. After Joe Johnston stepped away from the franchise, Joe and Anthony Russo, best known for directing over 30 episodes of the hit series Community, were brought in to take the wheel on the popular series and it looks as though Marvel is quite impressed with what they’ve seen, as it’s being reported by Variety that the directing duo will return for the third film.
According to the site, the brothers are being courted for the follow-up film, despite the film not receiving a green light. Naturally, the studio wants to make sure The Winter Soldier is a success before they get too deep into the project, but it’s a safe bet that there won’t be an issue.
Negotiations wouldn’t begin till after ‘Winter Soldier’ bows but sources say Marvel has been so impressed with the production of “Winter Soldier,” as well as with strong results from recent test screenings, that the studio has moved fast to attach the brothers to the next installment.
A writer and release date have yet to be attached, but the site states that the Russos already have a story arc in the works and a good idea where they’d like to go with the potential third film. As we’ve seen with previous sequels, Marvel is hesitant to sign directors too early in the process, but with the film already screening so well, they may make an exception this time.
Kevin Feige would return to executive produce, with Chris Evans contractually obligated to return. It’s possible that the third Captain America film could fill one of those mystery slots that Marvel has previously touted. As we move closer to the April release of The Winter Soldier, we’ll likely be seeing more onthis developing story, so stay tuned. And don’t forget to tune into the big game on Sunday to see the latest and greatest trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford, Frank Grillo and Sebastian Stan.
