Marvel unveiled some new digital goodies for readers at their SXSW panel earlier today. Four new projects were announced to show the publisher’s new emphasis on digital comics. One of the first things rolled out was the launch of Infinite Comics on July 9th. Infinity Comics is an initiative creating new digital comic books every week of the year. This explains the 52 slash marks teaser Marvel released a few weeks ago. The first story under the Infinite banner will be Wolverine: Japan’s Most Wanted by Jason Latour, Jason Aaron, and Paco Diaz. The story will tie in with the new Wolverine movie. Three other stories will follow after the introductory story.
The second thing announced broke the internet in two. Marvel released 700 #1 issues for new and old titles for FREE on Comixology. The site has been down or laggy ever since. There are a variety of title available from Marvel NOW! all the way back to the very first issue of Spider-Man. Grab them all if you want. There are absolutely no strings to the free offer. You have from now until Tuesday, March 12 to get them.
Third up is Project Gamma. This is a new audio adaptive project that will include music going along with different comic book scenes. It will change when you move from panel to panel, at your own pace. Marvel touts the “adaptive, non-repetitive scores.”
And finally Marvel is going to launch a new web show called Earth’s Mightiest Show, hosted by Blair Butler. It will include interviews and news on comic, movies, and TV.
Bleeding Cool had the rundown and Marvel just released the videos they showed during the panel on their Youtube page. You can check them out below. So the main takeaway from this is go grab free comics on Comixology if you’re able to. I’ve got a lot sitting in my cart, but things are going slow. You’ve got until Tuesday so try now or wait until the site has things more in control. What do you think about the new digital push?
