Marvel Confirms AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON To Film In South Korea
We’ve heard for some time now that Joss Whedon would be taking the Avengers: Age of Ultron cast and crew on a global adventure and we’ve slowly seen that bit of news come to fruition. A while back, we learned that a portion of the movie would be filmed at a stunning castle in Northern Italy and just yesterday, we saw some footage that was filmed in South Africa, which is rumored to be a pre-CGI Hulk being let loose on the city of Johannesburg. One rumor that, until today, did not have confirmation, was that some key scenes would be filmed in the city of Seoul, South Korea.
This afternoon comes news, via Marvel, that production will indeed be headed to the Asian metropolis. According to the studio, the production will bring new jobs for extras, crew, vendors and more.
“South Korea is the perfect location for a movie of this magnitude because it features cutting-edge technology, beautiful landscapes and spectacular architecture,” said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios and producer of Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
Since the release of Iron Man, the interest in the Marvel films has had significant growth in the fan base there. There is no word on what type of scenes would be filmed int he area, other than they are described as “key scenes.” The article also states that more filming locations are expected to be announced.
As I mentioned earlier, Whedon and company have stated that Age of Ultron will be a much more global film than its predecessor, which was set primarily in New York. Several new characters will be introduced in the film, including Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, being played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, respectively. Also joining the cast is Thomas Kretschmann, who will play the initial threat in the film Baron Von Strucker, who is rumored to be introducing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the Avengers, as well as James Spader, who is playing the main baddie, Ultron. Paul Bettany, who has voiced Iron Man’s JARVIS will be receiving a promotion in the film and will play Vision. Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders will all be reprising their roles. Ms. Marvel, War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) are all rumored to have a role as well, but there is no confirmation of that at this time.
