Mark Waid And Chris Samnee Are Relaunching DAREDEVIL After All
It was finally confirmed today that Mark Waid and Chris Samnee‘s critically acclaimed run on Daredevil would not be ending, no matter how hard Marvel tried to make people believe it. Nobody bought it but there was quite a hullabaloo online about the supposed “end” of the series. The Nerdist confirmed that after Mark Waid’s Marvel Infinity digital series Daredevil: Road Warrior, a brand new #1 issue from the team will hit shops in March 2014.
The new Daredevil chapter will pick up at the end of the digital series that sees Matt Murdock in California. Waid and Samnee are obviously renaming tight-lipped for now, but Waid did say a little bit about the new direction:
Without spoiling too much of the final issue of the previous series, we can tell you that Matt has to leave New York and, in many ways, has no choice but to return to California–specifically, California, no where else to go. But that’s where he and his cast will hang their collective hat from now on.
[A]t least one cast member will accompany him. Maybe not all. And the nature of Matt’s law practice will have to change substantially. And, of course, there’s the architecture–cityscapes and street locales have always been a big part of DD’s storytelling, and this will be a whole new look.
Also, Daredevil’s going to quickly find out he’s not the only crimefighter in town–and that he’s fooling himself to assume there’s room for more than one.
The daring Daredevil duo revealed they had the chance to relaunch with a #1 when the first Marvel NOW! push started, but that would have been a jarring thing to do at the time since they were right in the middle of a large story. With issue #36 closing a chapter in Matt‘s life, they felt this would be a good chance to do the whole relaunch thing. It’s interesting that Matt is going to find out he’s not the only crimefighter in town. We know Punisher is heading out to Los Angeles, and we all know those two guys have history. Could we see them crossing paths yet again? You can read the full interview by clicking the source link below. What do you think about the news being official now? Were you ever concerned this was really the end of Daredevil?
