Mark Wahlberg Comments On Transformers 4

transformers 4 bannerRemember those crazy couple of days a while back when Mark Wahlberg was said to be in Transformers, then we found out by Michael Bay that he wouldn’t, then just a few days after all that Bay revealed he liked the rumors so much he was going to try and get Wahlberg for Transformers 4. Production for the film is still a ways down the road, but Wahlberg has finally commented on joining up for the film.

Wahlberg and Bay worked together on the upcoming Pain & Gain, which is described as a dark action-comedy. While making that film the two batted around the idea of a Whalberg-centric Transformers sort-of-reboot. Here’s what Wahlberg had to say when asked what he could mention about the film:

mark wahlbergJust that I had a great experience working with Michael. We really hit it off. We complement each other so well on set and we took something that was really good and I think we made something special with Pain and Gain. He said to me (on set), ‘What do you think about doing a Transformers movie with me?’ I said, ‘Well, what do you want me to do? He told me and I said, ‘Absolutely!’

I think it will be the most challenging role that I’ve played and it’s an opportunity for me to do something extremely different. It’s going to be very different from what the first ones were. I’m excited about it. I talked to Steven Spielberg and I talked to Brian Grazer and I said, ‘Don’t worry guys, this is not me taking a paycheck and running with it. This is me trying to … I liked what the guys did with like The Avengers, for instance. When I watched that movie I was not interested in seeing it at all but it was entertaining for me as well as for my kids. I think they did a really good job and we want to do something special with it, so I’m excited about it.

Wahlberg has said that Transformers will go in a new direction. His comparison to The Avengers raises a lot of possibilities as well. The word is that Transformers 4 will start filming in May of next year. Interesting side note, after filming T4 in May Wahlberg plans to start work on Ted 2 according to Collider. What do you think about a Wahlberg Transformers? Do you think it’s the change the franchise needs?
