Mark Millar Comments on the Roles of Kitty Pryde and Sentinels in Days of Future Past

X-Men-Days-of-Future-PastMost comic fans know the famed Days of Future Past story from the X-Men comics, the same story that will be the basis for the upcoming X-Men: First Class sequel. But just as a refresher, the story opens in a ravaged future where mutants have been hunted down and eliminated by Sentinels, giant robots whose only purpose is to seek out and destroy mutants. In order to prevent this from happening, mutants send one of their own kind back to stop a key assassination from occurring.

While we know that this story will be the focus for the Days of Future Past film, details are still sketchy and we don’t know exactly which mutant will be sent back from the future. In the comics, it was none other than Kitty Pryde. Not long ago, it was announced that some of the cast from previous X-Men films would be returning to reprise their roles, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Shawn Ashmore, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin and Ellen Page, who played Kitty Pryde in The Last Stand. So, does this mean Page’s Kitty Pryde will have a more expanded and significant role? Mark Millar, who Fox brought on to oversee their comic book properties last year, hinted that may be the case.

“Ach, I cannae get into that [laughs]. As soon as I say something it will turn into a big internet story. Let me put it this way though: Kitty Pryde fans will not be disappointed.”

Take that how you want, but I think it’s pretty self explanatory. However, it has been previously reported that the focus of the film will remain on the First Class crew and that the other returning cast members would have a smaller role in the film. It could be that Pryde will be the exception to that statement, also.

On a side note, Millar was asked about the Sentinels and their part int he film. His response is positive, saying “I don’t really want to give too much away but the Sentinels are a big feature of this story. They will be cool and this will deliver on all of the teasers.” Last we saw the giant robots was int he Danger Room scene in The Last Stand, so hopefully we get to see more of the mutant hunters and that they’ve also had a bit of a re-design!
