Man Of Steel Leaves The Door Open For Justice League Says Zack Snyder
The Justice League question has been one that has been asked multiple times while the cast and crew of Man Of Steel has been doing press. No one has really had a definitive answer for the question either. Star Henry Cavill has admitted that Warner Brothers has not made him aware of any future plans for the Superman character, but has expressed his willingness to do a team up movie. Whether it be a Worlds Finest film, or Justice League.
However Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder has been a little more tight lipped about the future of DC on film, until now. Hero Complex sat down with him where he said his Superman absolutely exists in a world where other Superhero are. “Do the DC characters exist in the universe I created? The answer is yes,” Snyder said. “In my mind, we have this fantastic character of Superman. It’s not madness that there would be others.” However Justice League isn’t a done deal. With Snyder explaining “Now, that being said, does a ‘Justice League’ movie exist now? No.” He did go on to add that whether or not he would get to make the movie he isn’t sure.
How about Christopher Nolan? The Dark Knight Trilogy director who is producing Man Of Steel, has long been rumored to be involved with DC’s movie plans. While in the past he has denied his involvement, he wasn’t so matter of fact in his recent answer. “What I’ve been hoping for is to be able to take my kids to see a version of this story that is going to fry their imaginations the way the 1978 Superman that Dick Donner did for me when I was an 8-year old boy. That’s what I’ve been focused on and that’s my role in things. So anything beyond that, I can’t comment,” Nolan explained. However, Warner Brother movie head Jeff Robinov said Nolan and writer David Goyer made sure they developed the story to set up a DC Universe. Robinov told Variety, “Nolan said that he and David Goyer had come up with a way of doing the Superman story that wouldn’t exclude the future possibility of including the other DC characters. So Chris and David delivered a draft that did that.”
While no one wants to get overzealous and jump the gun, WB seems pretty confident they have a winner in Man Of Steel that will allow them to peruse their Justice League dream. Even Snyder acknowledged that the possibility is strong by saying, “What is real is that there’s a crack, a foot in the door. That’s promising. The door is definitely open.” While this isn’t an official confirmation of things to look forward to, it’s for sure a step in the right direction.
