Man Of Steel Casting Rumor May Just Spoil A Big Surprise
Obviously this article will contain a large possible spoiler if you couldn’t tell from the headline. Like all scoops and rumors, it has to be taken with a grain of salt. You’ve probably been a reader of movie news long enough to know how this goes. Continue on at your own risk. Harry Knowles at Ain’t It Cool News got hold of a juicy casting scoop that isn’t completely unexpected, but still pretty interesting.
According to AICN, they’ve been running down a rumor the past few days and finally made enough headway with it they think it’s legit. Their source claims that one Lex Luthor will indeed be popping up in some capacity in Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel:
Lots of people have been wondering if LEX LUTHOR was going to be in MAN OF STEEL.
The answer is apparently a very loud YES. Not only that the tone that Nolan/Goyer/Snyder are going for with the character is not the silly goofy Hackman Luthor… But an ambitious, ego driven and cold version of Luthor.
Luthor‘s inclusion is given a little traction thanks to a David Goyer quote in a recent interview with I Am Rogue. When asked why they didn’t use Lex in the movie, he responded “I don’t think anyone has every confirmed that we haven’t included him.” While you think about that, AICN also has a name- Mackenzie Gray. Mr. Gray played a Lex clone in several episodes of Smallville. Even they admit that raises a red flag, but they also found a video from last year where Gray confirmed he is in Man of Steel but he couldn’t say anything about it. That bit of info hits around the 1 minute mark. So Lex Luthor could possible be in Man of Steel. Now it could be a role like Norman Osborn in Amazing Spider-Man, largely relegated to the shadows and more used as set up for a sequel. Then again, the source said the role is “more substantial.” Take it with salt. What do you think though? Did you expect Luthor to show up? Do you think Gray is Lex? Man of Steel lands in theaters June 14th.
