Knightingail Announces 6-Connecting covers by Dawn McTeigue & Ula Mos
Wayne Gardiner and Big Dog Ink are excited to announce the release of the 6-issue comic book series, Knightingail: Shadow Divisions. This series, which is the sequel to the first volume Knightingail: The Legend Begins, will be released in comic book stores monthly starting in July 2013. However, the first variant comic book from this series will be released at Phoenix Comicon 2013 as a special limited edition of 250 exclusive. Dawn McTeigue and Ula Mos provide the phenomenal artwork for this initial comic book offering.
This cover will be an amazing collectible because this Knightingail cover is the first of 6 different covers being illustrated by McTeigue and Mos that will all connect together to form one large battle image. These are not 6 variants to issue #1, but there will be one limited edition variant for each issue of the Knightingail: Shadow Divisions comic book series that will connect with covers from the other issues. The other striking fact is that these covers are not just pin-ups with fancy backgrounds, but all of these Cover Cs of the series form a larger battle image in a 3 comic wide, 2 comic height illustration that depicts all the major heroes and villains from the comic book series battling against one another. Each cover by itself is amazing. But when they all link together, the jointly connecting image becomes all the more striking.
In order to ensure that all the covers matched up, Wayne Gardiner collaborated with Dawn McTeigue for over a month to ensure that the scene depicted was representative of the as yet unreleased story of Shadow Divisions. This required selecting an appropriate battle scene (the Ruby Citadel which is a central location in the series) and key characters to appear on each of the covers. The covers had to be designed to work well independently, and yet tie together in interesting ways. For example, the archer character Kaeli shoots an arrow all the way across the covers to hit a Lava Dog on a far away cover. There are also surprising other interactions, which you’ll need to see the entire cover set to discover. Wayne and Dawn are happy to provide a teaser rough pencil sketch of the six cover layout.
As mentioned, the first of the 6 covers will be available at the Big Dog Ink Booth at Phoenix Comicon over May 23-26. The remaining 5 covers will be released at conventions all over the USA throughout the summer such as New York Comic Con and Wizard World Chicago. However, both the first cover and all 6 covers are currently available now on the Knightingail: Shadow Divisions Kickstarter project (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1336373265/knightingail-shadow-divisions). The first cover is available as a reward for a $15 pledge. In addition, anyone can pledge $90 to this project and receive all 6 covers. These covers are strictly limited to only 250 copies. So anyone not wanting to run the risk of not being able to find these covers at the various summer conventions before they sell out should definitely order them now from the Knightingail Kickstarter project.
