Kevin Smith Talks Before Watchmen; Confirms Invite
The famous writer and filmmaker nerd Kevin Smith (who has written many comics for DC Comics, Marvel and other smaller publishers) said something at least unusual – Smith confirmed that he had been invited to write Before Watchmen, the miniseries to be published by DC Comics that takes place before the events in the works of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.
Bleeding Cool has cited the name of Smith several times has a writert on the possible prequels of Watchmen, but it has always been denied by sources including the site. However, after the official announcement of DC, Smith was contacted and confirmed that he had been approached by Jim Lee and Dan DiDio around early 2010. In his words:
“Jim Lee and Dan Didio talked to me about two years ago. I only denied because, unfortunately, I’m not Alan Moore. If I was Alan Moore, i would do it straight away! Since i am Kevin Smith, I’d end up doing pu#$%y jokes with Bubastis and then Rorschach was going to pee in his pants. “
Having declined the invitation, Smith was left out, leading to DC to spend two years to close the team of Darwyn Cooke, Brian Azzarello, JMS, Amanda Conner, JG Jones, Andy Kubert, Joe Kubert, Adam Hughes and John Higgins (the colorist on the original work).
Before Watchmen starts to be published in June.
