Kevin Feige Says Vin Diesel Isn’t GROOT Just Yet And Address The Recent ANT-MAN Rumors
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. He’s pretty busy overseeing the recenly launched Phase Two so it’s forgivable. The Marvel mastermind is out and about promoting Thor: The Dark World in London, so he’s finally making the press rounds again. Feige recently spoke with The Huffington Post about Vin Diesel‘s social media activity as well as addressing those big Ant-Man rumors that hit earlier this week.
Vin Diesel recently posted a video of himself walking around on stilts so, according to him, he could get ready for his role as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy (you can see that here if you missed it). While there has been no official announcement for the Fast and Furious star’s inclusion in the big James Gunn film, Feige says it’s not a done deal but it’s really close. It’s hard to tell since it’s only print, but he might have given Diesel a little poke for sharing too much:
He’s got to keep his 50 million followers, or whatever it is, entertained. It’s pretty impressive…[I] think he’s filming “Fast 7″ right now — and occasionally filming himself.
Yeah, I think it’s close. I think it’s close to being official for the Groot character. But, not 100 percent yet.
When the interviewer asked if that meant Diesel wasn’t nuts, Feige said “well, I didn’t say that.” The Marvel Studios head honcho said everything with Diesel and Groot only happened after Comic Con when the studio saw the potential to do something like this after talking with the actor.
Speaking of talking to actors, Feige addresses the Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd Ant-Man rumors as well. It popped up earlier this week that the two actors were the studio’s frontrunners. Feige plays coy about the truth of the rumors, but he shares his thoughts on JGL and Rudd:
Well, sometimes it’s because we are legitimately talking, and sometimes it’s just because he’s a prominent actor out there now. And lots of rumors surround prominent actors.
Well, nothing is true yet. I like Paul Rudd, too.
So Vin Diesel still isn’t officially Groot but it should happen soon. Feige has had some fun with these Vin Diesel questions the past couple of months. I’m sure he wishes the actor didn’t share so much on Facebook and Twitter, but so far Diesel has just had some harmless fun. It will be interesting to see how much more Diesel does before everything is official. As far as Ant-Man goes, I’d imagine we’ll start hearing something more solid soon. Edgar Wright has already started working on the film and casting has to be underway. Both Gordon-Levitt and Rudd would be interesting choices for the film. Marvel usually goes for unusual and bold choices, and I think both actors check those boxes. What do you think about Feige‘s comments?
