This year is going to be the year of Turtles. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are entering their 30th anniversary year and the team is alive and well in all manner of media. Nickelodeon has a hit cartoon featuring the four shelled heroes, Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman have a live-action film coming out later this year (which we still haven’t seen a single thing from officially), and IDW is putting out some of the best Turtles comics in recent memory. Today the publisher announced that original creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird will be reuniting for a very special cover.
Eastman and Laird will be working together for the first time in over 20 years for a special cover for IDW‘s anniversary issue. The comic itself will be 48-pages and feature shorts from Tom Waltz, Gary Carlson, Jim Lawson, Chris Allan, and Dan Duncan. Simon Bisley, Eastman, and Ryan Brown worked on the other cover for the comic titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 30th Anniversary Special. The special will cost $7.99, but it will be jam-packed from cover to cover. You can read IDW‘s full press release below. What do you think about Eastman and Laird reuniting for a cover? Considered one of the most popular kids’ television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned four blockbuster theatrical releases. The property also has translated into a significant consumer products business—with DVDs, video games, toys and more–that has generated billions of dollars at retail. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles debut on Nickelodeon in 2012 and ranked as the number-one new boy series for the year in the United States. In Aug. 2014, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films’ CGI/live-action hybrid will hit theaters.
