Katee Sackhoff Throws Cold Water On Those Marvel Movie Rumors
It seems that every day last week was all about news pieces saying Katee Sackhoff was possibly working on a Marvel movie and that Marvel Studios were really assessing how they would go about working on a female-led movie when the time was right. While Marvel Studios may still be looking to do a female superhero movie, Katee Sackhoff is saying it has nothing to do with her. The actress threw some water on the superhero fires while at the Toronto International Film Festival today.
Speaking with Crave Online, the fan-favorite actress clarified some comments she made while appearing on the Schmoes Know Podcast. The actress started discussing possible talks with Marvel, only to be cut off by the hosts as they attempted to makes jokes. That was a recurring theme with the podcast and Sackhoff wasn’t able to get a word in edge wise during something that was supposed to be an interview all about her. Sackhoff told Crave:
You know, you say one thing… People love a good story, even if it’s a story that has very little truth to it. If you go back and actually listen to what I said, I said that people have checked my availability. I never said Marvel [or] Disney so it’s interesting how people twist stories to serve an agenda that makes people click on their site, or sell their papers.
I absolutely have not spoken to Marvel. It doesn’t mean that my team hasn’t spoken to Marvel. I personally have not spoken to Marvel and have no plans to do a movie in the immediate future, because number one I’m tied up with Somnia which is a fantastic place to be. It’s exactly where I wanted to be.
So Sackhoff hasn’t actually spoken with Marvel about a possible role, big or small. Her reps may have had a word or two with the studio though. In an age of fake denials and misdirection, words from actors like this don’t mean anything. Sackhoff has always come across as a straight shooter and is usually pretty open with fans though. This is one denial I actually buy. The actress went on to state that she was flattered fans wanted her for the role:
I’m sure if we dug deep enough there is a sect of fans that don’t want me for Ms. Marvel so let’s just leave it at they want me for Ms. Marvel and that’d be fantastic. I would love to do the role. Of course I would love to do the role. I think that it’s in my wheelhouse and I would enjoy it. I’d be stupid to turn down a Marvel movie but as far as I know, Ms. Marvel isn’t even in the next movie.
So there you go. An offhanded comment on a podcast turned out to be nothing but an actual offhand comment. Sackhoff will probably be involved with a superhero movie before long, she’s expressed interest before and has declared her love of Harley Quinn numerous times. Hopefully she gets to play Quinn or Captain Marvel. That seems to be the two she’s most interested in. What do you think about Sackhoff‘s comments? Do you hope she gets a call from Marvel?
