Katee Sackhoff On Her Role In Riddick
Katee Sackhoff, known to many from her work on Battlestar Galactica, has a lot going on for her right now. Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer, another Battlestar alumn, formed Acting Outlaws to help raise money for charity. Sackhoff is also gearing up for season 2 of the hit A&E drama Longmire. If that wasn’t enough, she has a role in the upcoming Riddick movie with Vin Diesel. Her name has also been attached to the all-female Expendables movie that is being worked out now. Sackhoff talked with Collider about all the things she’s juggling now.
The actress was very excited to have the opportunity to work with Vin Diesel on the Riddick series, although she had to ask her dad if she could take on the role due to some of the things she’d be required to do:
Oh, my god, yeah! It’s a dream come true. I’ve been a fan of the Riddick series since Pitch Black, and I’m such a huge fan of Vin and (director) David Twohy. When I got the job, I was jumping up and down and crying and screaming. And then, the director said to me, “You do know there’s nudity, right?” And I was like, “Shit! I have to talk to my dad first. I can’t take the role until I call my dad. Let me call you right back.” So, I called my dad. I’ve always said that I’ll know when I’ve gone too far because I won’t be able to sit down and watch it with my father. I am a daddy’s girl at heart, even though I’m in my 30s. So, I told him about it and he said, “You know, I can handle that, but I don’t know if your brother will be okay. It’s Vin Diesel. Don’t say no to Vin Diesel. Just go do the movie.” So, I called David Twohy back and said, “My dad said I can take my clothes off.” It was pretty funny, actually.
After she got the go-ahead form her father, Sackhoff jumped at the opportunity. Her character is named Dahl. Dahl is a “Nordic bounty hunter, a German.” Sackhoff describes the character as a sniper who is very good at her job, but has a short-temper and a shorter fuse. She is second in command to Matt Nable’s character in a group of mercenaries. Riddick is said to be a very hard R rated film. Sackhoff explained why the film earned its R:
There’s a shitload of blood and there’s little pieces of nudity, here and there. There’s my nudity too, but it’s side boob, for three to five seconds. It’s not that big of a deal. It’s mostly for the language. My character and Matt Nable’s character say f**k, like every other word. It’s kind of fantastic, actually. He must have said f**k 15 times, in every single scene. It’s pretty awesome. So, it’s mostly for language.
The actress went on to say that she hasn’t seen a rough cut of the film, but she has seen “bits and pieces” that looked really fun. To read more from Sackhoff about Acting Outlaws, Longmire, and the female Expendables, click right here. Are you looking forward to the next installment of Riddick?
