JURASSIC WORLD Roundup: Animatronic Dinos, New Set Pics & Sequels
One of the most revered and successful sci-fi/adventure franchises is gearing up to make a roaring return in 2015. Fans will be re-immersed into the world of Jurassic Park with the upcoming sequel Jurassic World, which is being helmed by Colin Trevorrow. Filming is currently under way with an impressive and eclectic cast that includes Chris Pratt, Omar Sy, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Irrfan Khan, BD Wong, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson and Jake Johnson. Hitting the web this afternoon are new set pics from the film- courtesy of EW– one of them featuring Bryce Dallas Howard. The others show off a little dino mayhem and a breathtaking view of a Hawaiian landscape. Check those out below.
Speaking of dinosaurs, one of the most impressive things about the original Steven Spielberg film was the use of CG dinosaurs. The computer work that was used is impressive even by today’s standards. Of course, some animatronics were used as well, and according to the Trevorrow, that will be the case in Jurassic World as well. Essentially saying giving the exact same reason that I just used. Being that the technology still holds up today in a film that is now decades old, why not continue using it. Trevorrow also talked about the rather expect plot the film will have.
“It’s about alpha dominance and the fact that humans have been the alpha species for a very long time”, he explained, “and so now we’ve brought back another that happened to be the alpha species during its time, and we have to co-exist, so what is that relationship?”
Obviously, there will be more to it than that, but I’m not sure what else you go do in regards to a general story involving dinosaurs. The film will be set 22 years after the events of the original film and the tragedies that occurred on Isla Nublar. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear that sequels are already being thought about, especially with a film franchise as established and popular as the Jurassic Park films and Trevorrow, who also co-wrote the film says they have already had discussions about the potential of sequels.
“We definitely talked about [sequels] a lot,” the director/co-writer revealed. “We wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story.”
Trevorrow also talked about the recently added Omar Sy and the role that he plays in the films, saying that he fills the role of best friend to Chris Pratt’s character and that the two of them share some pretty fantastic action scenes together. For more on that character’s future, I suggest you check out the full interview with Empire Magazine.
You can catch Omar Sy in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he plays the always impressive futuristic mutant Bishop. Chris Pratt can be seen in the highly anticipated Marvel flick Guardians of the Galaxy, where he plays the wise-cracking and imposing Star-Lord.
Jurassic World is currently filming in Hawaii and will eventually move the work to New Orleans. We don’t know too much about which dinosaurs we can expect to see in the film, but that news should come soon. The film is slated for a summer 2015 release.
