Joss Whedon Comments On James Spader’s Casting As Ultron
After James Spader was announced as The Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s sub-titular villain, most fans were very pleased with the choice. Spader‘s casting was sandwiched between the Batfleck and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon announcements, so it didn’t have quite the internet punch some had hoped. Regardless of how warmly the news was received, Joss Whedon is absolutely thrilled that James Spader will be menacing The Avengers.
On the latest episode of Marvel’s The Watcher, host Loraine Cink shared a quote from the writer/director about Spader‘s casting. Whedon had no other names on his list. Spader was his only choice and he couldn’t see anyone else bringing Ultron to life:
Spader was my first and only choice. He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous. Ultron is not HAL. Spader can play all of the levels. He’s the guy to break The Avengers into pieces. [Evil laugh]
You can watch the full episode of The Watcher, but that’s all Whedon had to say about that. Spader is indeed an excellent choice. It will be interesting to see how he goes about bringing the villainous A.I. to life. Hopefully we’ll hear something from Spader himself regarding his new role before long. Somebody really needs to track him down. What do you think about Whedon‘s comments?
