JJ Abrams Talks Klingons In Star Trek Into Darkness

JJ Abrams took time out of being the most powerful nerd in the universe to talk about his first Star related film. The Star Trek and upcoming Star Wars director is out and about promoting the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness. The director spoke with MTV about two new additions to the film: Klingons and Alice Eve as Carol Marcus.
The Klingons come in a close second to the Vulcans as the most recognizable alien race. The ridge-headed warriors were in Abrams’ first Trek movie, but they were cut and relegated to a deleted scene on the DVD. This time they have made the final cut of the film. They will appear in some capacity as a villain in addition to Benedict Cumberbatch’s “John Harrison” character. Said Abrams:
We had shot some stuff that had Klingons in [our first 'Star Trek' film], and we cut the scene. It’s a deleted scene on the DVD. But they’re back in this one.
Their role in this is definitely adversarial and you’ll see how that plays out. You don’t need to know any preexisting stories to enjoy this film.
You can also check out the video to hear Abrams briefly mention the importance of Alice Eve’s character Carol Marcus and if she’ll be a romantic counterpart to Kirk like the old version of the character in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
