The S.H.I.E.L.D. show has been shaping up nicely so far. We know that Clark Gregg is coming back as Phil Coulson in some form or fashion and a few other agents have been enlisted to join up according to previous casting announcements. Joss Whedon will write and direct the pilot along with his brother Jed early next year, but we haven’t heard too much about when they plan to air it. Today we learn a little more about the show by way of Jeph Leob and Samuel L. Jackson.
Speaking with Previewsworld (via BleedingCool) Jeph Leob talked mainly about his upcoming Nova comic book, but there was a nice quote about the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot:
Well…we have a “little” pilot for television that you might have heard about called Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. co-written, directed, and Executive Produced by none other than Joss Whedon! Working with Joss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell on the show is a blast! And bringing in Clark Gregg to play Agent Phil Coulson — the best! Hopefully we will be on in the Fall of 2013 on ABC!
While we sort of figured they were planning a fall 2013 air date for the ABC pilot, it is nice to have official word from Marvel’s big TV chief.
Sam Jackson spoke with MTV about the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and whether or not he would be involved as Nick Fury:
I don’t know. I keep hearing about it, and I haven’t talked to Joss about it. But in my mind, I would tend to think that he would, if nothing else, be like Charlie in ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ At least be the voice!
It’s nice to know that Jackson wants to be involved in some capacity in the show. It would also seem pretty obvious that he would need to be involved every once in a while, you know, being S.H.I.E.L.D. director and all. Jackson went on to give a Captain America: The Winter Solider update. It sounds like he’ll be getting more than just a cameo:
It’s a full-on role, from the original script that I read. It’s a full-on S.H.I.E.L.D. operation in ‘Captain America,” he said. “But I don’t know — I’m meeting with the directors this week to see what happens.
So the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot starts shooting early next year and will most likely be shown during ABC’s new fall line-up. TV moves a lot faster than movies, so I’m sure it won’t be too long before we start getting all sorts of goodies about the show. What do you think about Jackson’s comments though? Do you think the Charlie’s Angels route would work with S.H.I.E.L.D.?
