Jeff Wadlow Teases X-Force Line-Up
A few weeks before the 2103 San Diego Comic Con kicked off, Fox dropped a bit of a bombshell on us, saying that they would be expanding the X-Men universe by announcing a film centered on the X-Force team. They took it a step further by announcing that Kick-Ass 2 writer and director Jeff Wadlow would be heading it up, both on the writing and directing side of things. We know that he is in the process of writing the story, but it won’t be his next project, that will be Go Fast, an aquatic version of the Fast & Furious franchise, where speed boats will take the center stage.
But that fact isn’t keeping Wadlow and Fox comic book movie over-seer Mark Millar from discussing the upcoming project. In an interview with SlashFilm, Wadlow and Millar both talk about the plans for the film’s line-up. Don’t get too excited though, as no names are specifically given, more an ackowledgement that there are a plethora of characters to pull from. He also discusses Rob Leifeld’s work from the 90’s and sounds liek he may pull from those stories as inspiration.
I love the current incarnation, UNCANNY X FORCE. I love what Rob did in the nineties. I remember buying X FORCE 1 and what I’ve really loved about the announcement that we are working on the movie is how excited people are by the potential, but also how curious they are like “What’s the line up?” What’s interesting with X MEN, I mean they have an iconic lineup, so you know who is going to be in that movie, but X FORCE it’s like “Who is it going to be?” I love that people are guessing.
Mark Millar also tossed in a bit of info, saying that “People are going to be dissecting every name as it gets released, so it’s will be so cool when you have your five.” So we know that the team will consist of five member. As you may or may not know, X-Force, like many of the X-teams, are a bit of a revolving door, seeing anyone from Deadpool, Cannonball, Colossus and Domino to Archangel, Nightcrawler, Psylocke and Siryn. One persone, however, has been a bit of a staple and that is Cable. We’ll have to wait to see who will make the cut and whether or not Wadlow pulls from the current line up of X-Men characters, like Colossus or Nightcrawler, or if they bring in new characters all together.
We don’t have have a release date for X-Force just yet and we don’t know how, or if, the film will tie into the current X-Men film timeline. I’m sure that Millar is overseeing this project as well, so it’s likely there will be some connection. Who knows, maybe an after-credits scene on Days of Future Past could lead into X-Force. What five team members would you like to see included? Do you think this could be the way they finally get Deadpool (the real one) into a film? Sound off below!
