James Spader is Ultron!
Earlier this year, Marvel made the big announcement that Ultron would be the main villain in the upcoming sequel to on of the highest grossing films of all time, The Avengers. Ultron has been high on the list of fans to make an appearance in a Marvel film for a very long time, and we finally get to see it happen, though it will have a unique twist. Rather than have Hank Pym be the creator of the character, it will be Tony Stark that will bring the artificial life form into existence. We may have already seen the beginning of that in the third Iron Man film, in which JARVIS controls the many suits involved in the climactic battle of the film. It has been rumored, and rather expected, that JARVIS will somehow transition into Ultron, though we have yet to get have solid confirmation on that.
Should that be the case, many figured that Paul Bettany would be voicing both JARVIS and Ultron, but this morning, we’ve learned that is not the case, as James Spader will be playing the robotic baddy. The news comes right from the horse’s mouth: Marvel. Spader has enjoyed an illustrious career on film and television, working on such projects as Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, and has won accolades, including multiple Emmy Awards for his time playing the arrogant, yet awesome Alan Shore on TV’s The Practice and Boston Legal. Many of fans will also know him from the sci-fi hit Stargate, opposite Kurt Russell. The actor can next be seen on the highly anticipated The Blacklist, which will air on NBC starting in September.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to begin filming next spring, and is scheduled to blast into theaters in 2015, joining a very crowded year for movies. The film will see the return of Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo and Cobie Smulders. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen are expected to join the cast to take on the roles of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, respectively. What do you think fans? I for one, am very excited about this casting. Spader is a very talented actor who isn’t afraid to take on roles that others may see as challenging, His knack for arrogance is astounding and that will carry over quite well into the character of Ultron.
