James Gunn Teases More Cosmic Beings For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY; Plus Nathan Fillion’s Role Revealed?
We know that Marvel Studios will be opening the cosmic side of things in Guardians of the Galaxy, but a recent interview with director James Gunn seems to hint that we have no idea just how cosmic things are going to get. While Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and company will be traveling through space to take on Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), Thanos (Josh Brolin), and other heavy-hitters, it sounds like we will be seeing and hearing about other cosmic beings that makes Thanos look like a very small fish in a very, very large pond.
Speaking with BIRTH. MOVIES. DEATH., the Alamo Drafthouse magazine from Badass Digest, Gunn was asked if Knowhere (which has been spotted in some of the TV spots and trailers) is in fact the giant, hollowed out head of a Celestial as it is in the comics. Knowhere is an interdimensional crossroads, scientific observatory, and favorite stopping off place for the Guardians, but some thought there might be a twist in the movie if Marvel didn’t want to introduce Celestials. The director says we will here about a couple of Celestials in fact. He told the magazine, “We have a couple of Celestials who we refer to in the film. They’re part of the overall structure of the cosmic universe. They’re part of the fun of what the movie is.” While that’s enough to excite cosmic fans, Gunn went on to tease there are characters out there that are bigger than Thanos:
Our characters, to some degree, have super powers, but at the same time they’re just ordinary citizens of the galaxy. They just happen to be renegades – they’re basically bikers. They’re just these ordinary citizens who get caught up in this thing – because they want money in the beginning – that has completely cosmic overtones. There are characters like Thanos involved, and then there are characters bigger than that. Suddenly these mortals are playing in the fields of gods. I always find that a very interesting thing.
While on the subject of Knowhere and cosmic things, Schmoes Know claim to have the scoop on Nathan Fillion‘s role in Guardians of the Galaxy. The fan-favorite actor let slip he had a small cameo last year, but a recent rumor suggesting the actor was playing Nova Richard Ryder stirred things up again. Gunn took to Twitter to say that was complete bull about Richard, but now Schmoes Know says Fillion will be voicing a character that is just as popular with DnA fans. They say a trusted source has confirmed Fillion will be voicing Russian cosmonaut and spacedog extraordinaire, Cosmo. Gunn confirmed a few months ago that Cosmo will have a small part in the film, and the site says Fillion will be lending his voice to the little dog. What do you think about the latest Guardians of the Galaxy teasers? What cosmic beings do you think will be introduced?
