Jada Pinkett Smith Joins GOTHAM In A Surprising Role
Fox‘s Gotham has already assembled a rather impressive cast. The two top guys have already been cast with Ben McKenzie being our Jim Gordon and Donal Logue playing his partner and mentor Harvey Bullock. Well now the show has added another big name with the addition of Jada Pinkett Smith in a rather surprising role. According to EW, Mrs. Smith will be playing a character called Fish Mooney.
The site reports that Smith has signed on to play a character that is the boss of a young psychopath named Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), who eventually becomes Penguin. Her character is described as “a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner, she’s got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she’s not one to be crossed.” While Fish Mooney is a completely original character created for the show, there is a chance that she could morph into someone familiar to Batman readers down the road (in a similar fashion to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Deathlok) since the role was described in the press release as a recurring one.
Smith makes another fine addition to the cast. This marks the actresses’ first TV gig since her 2009 show Hawthorne was axed by TNT. You don’t normally think crime boss when you think of Jada Pinkett Smith, so it will be interesting to see what she brings to the role. What do you think about Smith playing The Penguin‘s boss?
