In Related News: Ian McKellen Is Sherlock Holmes, Alan Taylor May Take On The Terminator, And Daniel Radcliffe Has Horns

movie theater bannerThere are a few exciting pieces of movie news that have hit today. While they’re big stories in their own rights, they aren’t quite full-blown comic book movie stories. When these stories come around, we round them up and call them “In Related News” items. Today we have three such stories for your reading pleasure. From Sir Ian McKellen playing Sherlock Holmes, to Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor being in talks for a new Terminator film, and Daniel Radcliffe growing a nice set of horns, it’s all here. Read on for the full rundown.

Ian McKellen (known as Gandalf, Magneto, and many other fantastic roles) will be adding another interpretation of a literary classic to his astounding resume- Sherlock Holmes. The actor will play an older Holmes in a movie called A Slight Trick Of The Mind, based not on Conan Doyle‘s stories but a 2006 novel by Mitch Cullin. The story is about a 93 year-old Holmes who has been retired from the great game for quite a while. Dr. Watson has been dead for years, but an unresolved case from their better days continues to haunt the master detective. Bill Condon will direct the film. This will be the first time McKellen and Condon have worked together since 1998’s Gods and Monsters, which earned McKellen a Best Actor Oscar nod. Jeffrey Hatch will write, but no release date or filming schedule is set as of now (via EW).

Alan Taylor went from Game of Thrones to Thor: The Dark World, and now it looks like he’ll be taking on The Terminator. Variety is reporting that the director is in talks to reboot the franchise for Skydance Production, Paramount, and Annapurna Pictures. The film has been in the work for a while, though no plot details are known. The new Terminator film is said to kick off a new trilogy and will feature Arnold Schwarzenegger in some capacity.

Finally, some new pictures of Daniel Radcliffe in the movie Horns have found their way online. The movie, based on the Joe Hill novel of the same name, sees Radcliffe playing a guy who is suspected of murdering his longtime girlfriend. Everyone thinks he did it, and it seem to be confirmed when he sprouts a set of devilish horns. The horns have a side effect though, they cause everyone around him to tell the truth. With this new ability, the truth about his girlfriend’s murder will come out. EW revealed three new images from the Alexandra Aja directed film out this October.
