Hugo Weaving And Others Being Eyed For STAR WARS VII Roles; New Potential Plot Details Emerge
Just last night we heard that Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Friday Night Lights) was being eyed for a role in J.J. Abrams‘ Star Wars Episode VII. That was one of the first pieces of casting news that claimed to be more than a rumor, and it seems like that report has opened the floodgates. The Hollywood Reporter has listed three new actors who are supposedly being looked at for important roles as well as some potential details about Abrams‘ script.
According to the site, Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Adam Driver (Girls), and Hugo Weaving (pick any movie really) are among a list of actors being eyed for key roles in the highly anticipated film. It seems Driver has become something of a hot commodity since his name emerged as a potential contender for the role of Nightwing in Batman vs. Superman. While there are no details about the roles Fassbender or Driver are being looked at for, it is being said that Weaving‘s role could be that of an Imperial commander. The film is also said to be looking for a mixed race or black female for the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s daughter or granddaughter.
In addition to the new names and character descriptions, THR reports that the script has changed considerably since Michael Arndt left the project. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are rewriting things not because of time constraints as originally reported, but because there was a fallout regarding the plot of the story. Claims the site:
Arndt is said to have focused on the offspring of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), with the original trilogy heroes taking on supporting roles. Abrams, however, wanted Episode VII to focus on the classic trio of characters, so audiences could have one more chance to enjoy them before a fitting send-off. The new characters, the offspring, will now be in supporting roles, according to these sources, and take center stage in Episode VIII and IX. Some characters have disappeared from the Arndt script and new ones are being drafted.
That’s quite a juicy detail if it turns out to be true. The trio will be the main focus of the new chapter, then their offspring will take over for the rest of the series. That should please many fans who hoped Hamill, Fisher, and Ford would have sizable roles in the new trilogy. If things like this are starting to leak out, it shouldn’t be too long until we hear something official. Bare in mind that the script is still not finished, so things could still change. What do you think about the new list of actors and possible plot details? Star Wars will take over theaters December 18, 2015.
