Hugh Jackman Still Wants To Be In The AVENGERS
Ever since The Avengers assembled in the hugely successful 2012 film, fans have been hoping and wishing for Marvel Studios to work with their competitors, namely Fox and Sony to get other characters involved in the team-up films; specifically Wolverine and Spider-Man, as those two studios own the film rights to the respective characters. But, because there is so much red tape and legal issues getting in the way, not to mention money, it is very likely that we’ll never see this happen. But that doesn’t mean that Hugh Jackman can’t be high on the idea of it happening, as he’s stated many times. The Australian actor has said in several interviews that he’d like to take part in the Avengers franchise and he is still very excited about the idea.
While out doing some promo work for the latest film in the X-Men franchise, Days of Future Past, Jackman spoke with IGN about the idea of him joining the Marvel team and why he’d be such a great fit.
“I would love to see him as part of The Avengers.Because there’s a great dysfunction among that team, and I think Wolverine would fit right into that. He’d like that.”
It would certainly be entertaining to see Wolverine’s snarkiness mixed in with the arrogance and smart-ass attitude of Tony Stark and the boy scout demeanor of Captain America. As we saw in the first film, the team took some time before they were able to find a common ground and put their differences aside. But not before we saw some really cool fight scenes. This was another topic that was brought up: which Avenger would Hugh like to see Wolverine take on first?
“There’s no doubt he’d get in a fight with Hulk at some point. Those two bad, rage-filled characters are going to square off at some point. It would be quite fun. I don’t know how much fun to shoot it would be because I’m sure I’d be on the worst end of it, but hey, he can heal.”
We’ve seen these two characters battle it out several times in the comics as well as in a pretty awesome animated film that Marvel released several years back. No doubt that it’d be really cool to see the two pair off on screen. But, sadly, I don’t see this happening in the near future for several reasons. Aside from the legal and property rights issues, Jackman has recently stated that he is nearing the end of him playing the fan-favorite character, so if it does happen, it’d likely be a new actor taking on the Hulk. And that’s a really big if.
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters this Friday and is tracking very well, with the possibility of having the biggest opening of any X-Men film. Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently filming in various locations and is scheduled to hit theaters next may.
