Hank Pym Won’t Create Ultron, But Edgar Wright Says We’ll Meet Him In Ant-Man
Joss Whedon shocked some fans this week when the said that Hank Pym would not create Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron and that you didn’t really need Pym to have Ultron anyway. Since Pym created Ultron in the comics and we know he’s going to get his own movie shortly after Avengers 2, many just assumed the good doctor would have a hand in Ultron‘s creation in the movie universe as well. From everything we’ve heard the last few days, it really looks like Tony Stark will be responsible for the villainous artificial intelligence’s creation, so where does that leave Pym? Well iO9 found out that he’ll at least have a brief appearance in Edgar Wright’s film.
iO9 caught up with the writer and director at The World’s End premiere and asked him about Hank Pym. The director said that we will “meet” Dr. Pym in the movie. That’s not a huge surprise, but it does seem to give a little credence to the rumors that Scott Lang will be Wright‘s Ant-Man. Wright has described the film as being about “a badass secret agent” and that really doesn’t fit with Pym at all. It does fit with Scott Lang, the reformed criminal who takes over the Ant-Man headgear and identity. You could easily have him working with Stark Industries or S.H.I.E.L.D. to make up for some big crime he pulled off. Anyway, it seems like Pym will be involved briefly as whoever plays Ant-Man starts up their new superhero career. What do you think about the lack of Pym in the Marvel movies? Do you hope Wright gives him something big to do when we “meet” him?
