Gina Carano Talks Comic Book Movies And Getting Wonder Woman Right

by

ginaWhenever talk of a female superhero movie starts up, Gina Carano‘s name is usually thrown out as a possible contender. The MMA Champion who recently entered the world of acting already has an impressive resume. She’s worked on Haywire, Furious 6, and the upcoming In The Blood. ComingSoon.Net recently chatted with the actress about that film as well as what’s next for her. Carano makes it sound like she’ll finally start to get into the world of comic book movies.

It was announced at Comic-Con that Carano and Rob Liefeld would be working on an adaptation of the comic Avengelyne, with the two looking for a writer or possibly a writer-director. With Comic-Con only being a few weeks ago, there hasn’t been any other big announcements just yet. When asked what’s next for her, the actress makes it sound like she’s looking at several projects in addition to Avengelyne:

I’m starting to get into the comic book space a little, which I think is just so absolutely fun. Just to dress up. I can’t really talk about it right now, but there’s some really good prospects about what we might do there. I love playing dress-up. I love going on red carpets. It’s almost just like playing dress-up in your grandmother’s closet. I want to get some different looks and have some fun. As long as I connect to it, it can be anything from an emotional character to an action character to anything. I just want to let loose and have some fun a little bit.

WonderWomanWhile she might be looking at a few projects, one that she’s had her name attached to several times is Wonder Woman. The actress was asked about the fan campaigns trying to get her the role:

Which is such an incredible compliment. That’s the ultimate superhero for a woman. No matter what, no matter who ends up being Wonder Woman someday, I just hope it’s something that is done correctly. I know it’s there and that it could definitely be done correctly. It’s just a matter of getting the right people and having the right vision come together. A director and producer and writer have to see the beauty in it and make it real.

Carano has grown as an actress with each film and she definitely has the look for Wonder Woman. Her recent break-up with Henry Cavill might make things a little awkward on the Justice League set, but she I think she could definitely pull off the role. What do you think about Carano‘s comments? Do you hope she gets into comic book movies next?

Update: Rob Liefeld saw our story on Twitter and offered a brief update on the Avengelyne film that Carano hinted at in her answer above. Meetings are ongoing and the search for a writer/director is on!
