Gina Carano Talks Comic Book Movies
When folks start discussing a potential Wonder Woman movie, it’s not unusual to see the same names resurface in regards to who should play the powerful female comic hero; names like Kate Beckinsale, Megan Fox, Olivia Wilde, among others. There is another name that usually comes up as well, MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano. The up-and-comer turned heads in last years actioner Haywire, where she took on the likes of Channing Tatum and Michael Fassbender and held her own. With her fighting background, it makes her a quick study in regards to new styles of fighting and martial arts, which is always a plus.
Carano is out promoting her latest film Fast Furious 6, where she stars alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Michelle Rodriguez. She sat down with the folks at Collider to give a bit of insight on her future projects as well any roles she’d like to play. Naturally, talk of Wonder Woman came up and she has some interesting things to say. It sounds as though she’s already talked to some folks about playing a super hero.
There have been talks about some different characters. That’s a dream to put on a costume and be a whole other level of character, but I think that … we’re looking at a whole bunch of different things right now. There’s always the possibility that some day I will be a comic book character that I’ll play and I’m not sure who that’s going to be. It would be very fun and fascinating. We’ll just have to see where my career is going to go. There’s so much I want to do. I love emotions, I love drama, I love comedy and I also want to take action up to another level, I love comics. I’m just reading some scripts and putting myself out there and seeing what’s attractive to me. We’ll kind of figure out where this goes.
Obviously nothing too specific there, but it certainly sounds like she’s put her name out there for various roles. I know that Carano has a lot of people on the fence in regards to her donning the iconic wrist shields and lasso, and that mostly stems from her inexperience as an actress. But, if you place “beginners” in the hands of a veteran director, they can do wonders (pun intended) and get that actor or actress to pull a role of fairly well.
Aside from Wonder Woman, what comic book character do you think Carano could pull off, if at all? Think she could pull of the lawyer-look of She-Hulk? How about the deadly assassin known as Elektra? Or would you rather she stay away from our beloved female power-houses?
