Geoff Johns Says 'Shazam!' Movie Still Possible
Johns has been attached to the proposed superhero project as writer and producer since 2009, though this is the first status update offered for some time.
“There’s always a possibility for Shazam. There’s always talk about Shazam. And I can’t get into the specifics on that, but yeah, there’s hope for Shazam,”
he told Newsarama.
Warner Bros was reported to have hired Johns and Bill Birch to pen a screenplay based on the project. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was previously linked with the film, but the part he was in line to play was never disclosed.
Johns is currently writing the ‘The Curse of Shazam!‘ back-up feature, which will run in DC‘s Justice League from issue #7. According to the scribe, the strip is tonally similar to the work he has completed on the movie.
“It’s got some elements that I pitched in there, and some of the same characters, obviously, because the characters cross over,”
“Tonally, it’s probably pretty close.”
