Geoff Johns Exiting Aquaman With Ivan Reis Plus #12 Robot Chicken Variant
It was previously reported that artist Ivan Reis would be leaving Aquaman after #16 as DC reshuffled writers and artists yet again. There was also word of more cancellations and new books coming in January. While that was a big surprise, the recent news from Bleeding Cool was. Geoff Johns will be leaving Aquaman.
Johns helped to do what many saw was impossible, he reinvented Aquaman and elevated him to more than simply a punchline. There are many things to give the DC 52 reboot credit for, but one of the bigger points is the new and improved Aquaman. Johns leaves some big shoes to fill for the next artist. No word on when exactly Johns will leave, or who is on the shortlist to replace him.
Reis and Johns won’t split up entirely, the artist will take over for Jim Lee on Justice League of America. Before the two take their final bow, they have at least a few issues left. Issue 12 will feature a Robot Chicken variant cover to promote the DC special airing September 9th. The cover gets the full Robot Chicken treatment. Johns, who co-wrote the special and served as a writer for season 4, promises a big role for Aquaman in the show. He says that the episode could easily be called “How Aquaman Got Hist Groove Back.”
