GAME OF THRONES Gets Renewed For Two More Seasons
The Game of Thrones season 4 premiere pulled in a whopping 6.6 million viewers, making it the second most-watched program on the network since the series finale of The Sopranos. Hot off the heels of that news, and no surprise to anyone, it has been announced that Game of Thrones has been picked back up for a fifth and sixth season.
HBO made the announcement today with president of programming Michael Lombardo saying, “Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.“
Executive producers/showrunners Weiss and Benioff have said before that they see the series lasting seven or possibly eight seasons. The two season renewal is taking us closer to the end, though the duo have some time to decide if they need to break things up for the extra eight season. It seems very likely the show will start filming its end before George R.R. Martin finishes the books. Weiss and Benioff have been told by Martin how the series ends, so that shouldn’t be too big of a problem. What do you think about Thrones getting a two season renewal?
