The HBO hit fantasy show based on George R.R. Martin‘s series of books has been renewed for a third season. The network ordered a third season hot off the heels of the debut of the second season getting record ratings.
The third season is supposedly based on the first half of A Storm Of Swords, the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. Due to the length of the book, the third season will be the first half of the book.
Executive Producer of the show, David Benioff, told Entertainment Weekly:
As George and all his fans have said for a long time, there’s no way to do [Swords] in a single season, so it’s being broken into two. We’re still kind of figuring out exactly what goes where. We don’t want it to feel like a two-part season… From the beginning we’d always prayed we’d get to season 3 at least because, you know, two of our favorite scenes from the entire saga are in season 3.
