From JARVIS To Ultron, Do We Have Confirmation?
Ever since Marvel took the stage at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, fans have been begging for more news regarding the involvement of the mega-villain Ultron. At the con, fans got to see the official announcement, which came in the form of a small teaser that showed Iron Man’s helmet being beaten and battered until it took the shape of Ultron’s famous mug. From this teaser, we’ve surmised that Tony Stark will be the creator of Ultron, rather than Ant-Man/Hank Pym, as is customary. Along with that, fans have kind of pieced together the idea that JARVIS would be transformed into the Avengers’ next baddie. The folks over at Unleash the Fanboy have recieved a bit of news from an inside source that this is indeed what will be happening, seemingly confirming what we’ve all speculated for over a month now.
When we asked if JARVIS, or a form of the AI software, would become Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, our source said: “That’s the plan so far from what I’ve heard. Obvious, isn’t it?”
As most folks know, JARVIS is voiced by Paul Bettany and has done so since the very beginning, can we expect to see the actor take on the role of Ultron as well? The site asked if Bettany would just be doing voice-over work as he’s done in the past, or if it’d be a proper physical role.
He’s returning, but I’m not sure if they’re doing motion capture with him, or if they’ll use someone else. Since he’s only done voiceovers, the contract is new.
Makes sense. As we saw at the end of Iron Man 3, throughout most of the movie actually, JARVIS is now able to control most of the suits that Tony Stark had created, using them in the final battle sequence of the film. It only seems natural to take that to the next level and have one of the suits take on a mind of its own. The question remains, will they keep Ultron’s hatred towards his creator as was done in the comics with Ant-Man, and could Pepper Potts step into the role of Wasp as Ultron’s object of affection? You also have the ever-popular Vision and Scarlet Witch storyline, which sees the droid being created by Ultron, who falls for the magic-weilding mutant. That seems less likely, but you never know.
A lot of unanswered questions that will likely remain unanswered for a while. As with any news without any confirmation, take this with a bit of salt, but it won’t be shocking if this is indeed the route they take. Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to begin filming next year and will arrive in theaters in 2015. The sequel will see Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smolders all reprise their roles. Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen are intalks to join the cast as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, respectively.
