UPDATE: Fox Officially Orders GOTHAM To Series; Trailer To Premier During 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY
In a not so surprising move, Fox has placed an order for Gotham to head to series. The network is scheduled to reveal its 2014-2105 schedule next week, but with the project being one of their highest profile this year, they went ahead and dropped the news today. The series will tell the origins of many of Batman’s greatest baddies, starting off with Oswald Cobblepot, better known to most as The Penguin. The murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne will play a major role in the series, as will a young Bruce Wayne, played by David Mazouz.
Ben McKenzie will fill the lead role of Jim Gordon, who teams with Donal Logue’s Harvey Bullock to tackle the city’s growing crime. The series will also see Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth and Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen. With Bruce being so young, we may not see the The Dark Knight grace the screen for some time, but the plan is to have him don the cape an cowl in the final episodes of the series, whenever that may be.
Bruno Heller, the man behind the hit series The Mentalist, served as writer and producer on the pilot, which was directed by Danny Cannon. No word has been given as to when the Gotham will air, but that news should be coming soon.
