We have our first look at David Morrissey as the Governor from the third season of AMC and Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. TV Guide has the picture and some words by Kirkman himself.
Seeing The Walking Dead come to life on AMC has been a real thrill for me, obviously, and moving into Season 3 I’m even more excited than ever because now I feel like we’re really getting to ‘the good stuff. Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exiting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks!
If you have read the Governor’s storyline, you might expect they could only get away with it on channel like HBO. It is very violent and brutal, and that’s not even getting to the zombie parts. Kirkman tells fans to rest easy “The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic.” Kirkman also said they would not be watering the character down.
It’s pretty easy to notice that Morrissey looks very different from the Governor we know and hate from the comics. There is no word on how early on we will be meeting the Governor, so this may be an early look or how he will look throughout the season. Morrissey said he was reading Rise of The Governor so there may be elements of that story in place or he is just simply studying the character. That may trouble some fans, but from all we’ve heard and seen from the season a different looking Governor may be a small price to pay for what awesome sounding things they have planned.Filming of season 3 is well underway and the new season starts later this fall.
