First Official Image From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Drops; Plus An Official Synopsis
As is pretty standard for Marvel, the studio is prepping to drop two new films in 2014. First up is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which, from the first trailer we saw, looks to be taking more of a spy-film approach to the First Avenger while still bringing the action that Marvel never shies away from. The second film of 2014, and the final lead-in before we are blessed with Avengers Age of Ultron, is James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The film will be the studio’s first venture into the cosmic side of their properties, and from the little bits we’ve seen, it will be a very interesting trip.
If you’ll remember a few months back, some not so good quality images surfaced from the film at San Diego Comic Con. Other than the mid-credits scene from Thor: The Dark World, that’s really all we’ve seen. Today however, that changes as we have our first official glimpse of the major players of the film. As we’ve previously seen, the pic is a group mug shot of our baddies turned heroes. I don’t know about you, but I’m rather excited to see this rag-tag group of kick-ass misfits take to the screen.
Also hitting this afternoon is an official synopsis for the film.
From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, Michael Rooker and Djimon Hounsou. The film, which is being directed by Jame Gunn, will fly into theaters August 1st of 2014.
