First Official Image from R.I.P.D. Arrives
It’s been nearly three years since Universal tapped Ryan Reynolds to star in the big screen adaptation of the graphic novel R.I.P.D. and while we’ve seen some behind the scene images, this is the first official pic from the film. What is interesting about this project is that it releases in a few months and we’ve yet to see any marketing for it. Universal’s Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, releases in a few weeks, so it is possible we could finally see a trailer at that time.
R.I.P.D. will see Ryan Reynolds play a young cop who is murdered. In the afterlife, he joins a paranormal crime fighting squad called the Rest In Peace Department. He is teamed with an old west cowboy played by The Dude himself, Jeff Bridges. The pair go on a hunt to find Reynolds’ killer, played by Kevin Bacon. The film also stars Mary-Louise Parker, James Hong, Mike O’Malley, Robert Knepper, and supermodel Marisa Miller.
I’m quite interested in why Universal hasn’t done any marketing for this film. The cast and crew were still filming about a month ago, and there isn’t a whole lot of time to do post-production 3D, so don’t expect that little “gimmick” to be part of the release. The cast is admirable and with Red director Robert Schwentke at the helm, it has some potential. Hopefully in the coming weeks, we’ll have some character posters, a trailer…something to get folks interested in the project. R.I.P.D. arrives in theaters in July.
