Expect Some Tension Between Rocket Raccoon And Yondu In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
It seems like the only cast members from Guardians of the Galaxy that have really revealed any information so far has been Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker. Yesterday we saw a video of Vin Diesel running around on a pair of stilts to “prepare” for his CGI work for Groot (you can see that here), and today we get a new quote from Michael Rooker. It seems he and everyone’s favorite gun totting raccoon aren’t going to be getting along.
Rooker plays Yondu, one of the comic’s founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yondu will have a big part to play in James Gunn‘s film, but it might not follow the comics too closely. Rooker will still be mixing it up with some of the cast though. He told SciFiNow that Yondu and the raccoon aren’t going to get along:
Rocket and I don’t get along, he’s a bit abrupt and brash for my taste. I probably have a little Merle in me still, because I would roast him over an open flame and eat him for supper!
It’s funny that Rooker and Bradley Cooper‘s cute little character will be a little at odds since many people were convinced Rooker would be voicing Rocket shortly after the movie was first announced. Speaking of big, blue Yondu, Rooker was asked whether working with the prosthetic arm in The Walking Dead or being painted was harder to deal with. He also touches on those paparazzi pics we saw of him in character a few months ago:
I’m still sore from the Merle’s arm. That thing still bothers me, I couldn’t even imagine putting it back on right now, I’d be like ‘Oh no! Pleeease!’ But the blue is simple, it’s beautiful. The colours that we use in Guardians are just exquisite. When everything is put together – when you have wardrobe on and the lighting’s going – man oh man it’s beautiful, it’s going to look fabulous.
The paparazzi have a bunch of photos of Yondu – I think Yondu was the first of the characters that got totally exposed – and you can see the character looks totally different from the comic.
If Yondu travels with the Guardians for any amount of time, I’m sure we’ll see some great moments between Rooker and the rest of the cast. I would venture a guess that Yondu gets along better with the others than he does the raccoon. A gruff, fully armed, hardcore character is sort of Rooker‘s territory. What do you think about the actor’s comments? Guardians of the Galaxy will land in theaters July 31, 2014.
