Emma Stone Talks Gwen’s Fate & More Set Pics
If you don’t know Spider-Man story lines, this article may contain spoilers! Proceed with caution! One bit of Spider-Man’s back story that has yet to be touched on film, which is the death of his first love, Gwen Stacy. Her demise has been expected and it will very likely happen in the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, which is currently films. We’ve seen a few hints as well, including images of Emma Stone, who is playing Gwen Stacy, wearing an outfit that looks very similar to that of the one Stacy wore when she was killed. Obviously, those involved are staying pretty quiet on the subject, but don’t be surprised to see it happen.
The biggest questions right now is who will be responsible for her meeting her fate. In the famed comic, it is Green Goblin (Norman Osborn) who is the death dealer…kind of. We know that Chris Cooper has signed on to play Osborn, but it is unknown at this time whether we will see him as Goblin. So, that leaves either Electro or Rhino to fill the void, assuming we don’t see Goblin.
While speaking with SFX (via Digital Spy), Emma talked about the fate of Stacy and compares it to the comics, where Gwen’s death is attributed by a whiplash effect she suffers after Spidey catches her mid-air. She wants to stay true to that very story.
“Essentially the argument is that Spider-Man kills her by accident,” Stone said. “So the person she loves is the person who kills her, which is the most horrifying thing.”
As I mentioned earlier, it is unclear as to how Gwen’s death will be approached, so we don’t know if Goblin will even be involved, or whether one of the two main villains, Rhino and Electro, will be responsible. There have been quite a few set images of this production so far, so hopefully one of the many photogs out there will capture the famed scene and we’ll know for sure.
Speaking of on-set images, Fan-Girl has gotten their hands on quite a few new images of Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. A few of them show Spidey checking in on Gwen from high above. Be sure to click here for more of the images. The sequel is once again being directed by Marc Webb, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprising their roles. Shailene Woodley (Mary Jane Watson), Dane DeHaan (Harry Osborn), Chris Cooper (Norman Osborn), Jamie Foxx (Electro), Paul Giamatti (The Rhino) are also starring in the film, which is set to release next summer.
