Emma Stone Seems Resigned To Gwen Stacy’s Fate: Super Bowl Teaser Coming Very Soon

stacyI don’t know what the statute of limitations is on spoilers, but we’re going to be talking about something that happened 41 years ago in the comics that may well happen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Just a heads up more than a warning. Emma Stone recently called into On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk a little bit about The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Seacrest wanted to talk about Pharrell’s big hat at the Grammy’s, but he did eventually get around to talking about Gwen Stacy. Stone teases her character’s fate as well as a Super Bowl teaser that will be hitting Thursday.

After the talk of Pharrell’s hat, Stone mentioned that there would be a huge teaser released on the Spider-Man Facebook page Thursday to tease the Super Bowl spot. When asked what to expect from both the teaser, spot during the big game, and the movie as a whole, Stone said “Basically they’re going to see the continuation of the Spider Man story, which is the hero’s journey, and he’s up against a whole new squadron of villains and he’s struggling with promises he’s made in the last movie and the consequences of keeping those and what it’s like to be in love with somebody who you promised to not see anymore.

Seacrest asked if Stone had most recently been filming scenes as an alive or dead Gwen, to which Stone admitted that was “a VERY good question.” We all know Gwen ends up dying in Spider-Man’s arms after being tossed off a bridge by the Green Goblin. The fall was bad, but Spider-Man’s attempt to save her snapped her neck. It has been heavily rumored that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will see Emma Stone playing out Gwen’s death. When asked if that would happen, the actress seems to admit it. She states “I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story as closely to the comic as possible. That’s been the director’s idea and the studio’s idea. We’ll see if it comes to fruition on that.” Whether we see hints of that in the teaser tomorrow remains to be seen. Check back here tomorrow for the big Super Bowl tease. We’ll have it for you as quick as we can. What do you think about Stone’s comments? Do you think Gwen Stacy will take her final bow in the sequel?
