Edward Norton Responds To Mark Ruffalo's Success Playing The Hulk In THE AVENGERS - Comic Book Therapy

Edward Norton Responds To Mark Ruffalo’s Success Playing The Hulk In THE AVENGERS

The Hulk is one of those characters who has gone through many interpretations in his half century with Marvel Comics; which doesn’t exclude film and television adaptions.  Edward Norton had his chance to play the Green Goliath in the 2008 film “The Incredible Hulk”, before being replaced by Mark Ruffalo in “The Avengers” after multiple snags were hit in Norton’s negotiations for his role reprisal.  Now Norton responds to the overwhelming success of Ruffalo’s Hulk while speaking to HitFix about why he hasn’t seen “The Avengers” just yet:

“Mark is like a brother to me,” Norton responded when asked for his take on the whole “Avengers” situation. “Besides, he’s got two kids, and I’m really happy he gets to have this moment with them.”

So why hasn’t Edward Norton seen the fourth highest grossing movie of all time that he was once set to have a major role in?  A simply put “It just isn’t very important to me.”

  1. Agent Burgos says:

hmm….I like Ruffalo all of the sudden…more

  2. Badfast says:

Ruffalo did a much better Banner in my honest opinion.

  3. After reading a lot about that situation, Norton seemed like a dick. I understand WHY he wanted some of the control, but the way he went about it. Beides, Ruffalo was by far the best Hulk to have been in film

    • lu says:

Absolutely not! Ruffalo played Banner as depressed, suicidal
and a bit paranoid. Norton played Banner as impatient, driven and very
physical, always moving, always thinking.   While Ruffalo’s
interpretation is interesting there was never a time when he was on screen I
didn’t wonder how Norton would have played the scene, and I saw the movie twice.
Norton is the more lively actor and he
would have brought a different dimension to the group, more tension. He would
have been the odd person in the group and the Hulk should be that.  It seems that’s what he was as he discussed the
role. Who better to play a man who when out of control becomes a monster than a man driven to control. Finally, I would have loved to see the repartee between Downey and Norton as Stark and Banner, both quick witted and equals in intelligence.  In terms of Norton not being interested in
seeing the movie, it isn’t surprising. As an actor he should keep moving
forward, never dwelling on the part he wasn’t selected to play.

  4. Ruffalo was great as Banner and the Hulk!

  5. I agree, I wish they had had Mark to begin with, he was perfect.

  6. Isaac says:

As much as I like Mark Ruffalo as the hulk in Avengers, I just dont think he would play a good Hulk in a stand alone movie. That being said hes great for the Avengers movies because he works good with others. But id take Edward Norton by far for another solo Hulk movie he has more attitude and plays the main character well hand down.

    • Agent Burgos says:

I can understand and respect your opinion… However I still think we should give Ruffalo a chance in a solo movie

  7. Marceladbcampanilli says:

    Dor de cotovelo, mr. Norton.

  8. I believe Edward Norton the same thing goes for me too. I didn’t brother to watch The Avengers 2012 with that dull soggy replacement actor mark ruffalo is not as good as Edward Norton 2008 Incredible Hulk film. Marvel hasn’t rule out the Edward Norton Hulk movie. That will. continue with Edward Norton.
