Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Teases His ‘Superman Level’ DC Role

dc-comics-character-image__indexDwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not stranger to the spotlight. Whether it’s beating guys up in the WWE, or starting in a huge Hollywood blockbuster, The Rock never shies away from the big moment. Such as the case when he had the opportunity to go to Cinemacon and talk about his upcoming movie Hercules. Johnson fielded questions of all types from the films tone to the film being a passion project for him.

Another question he surprisingly answered was his involvement with Warner Brothers and DC. The reason it was surprising is that he was promoting a Paramount film. Never the less when asked about his and DC’s relationship in which he has teased that he may be playing Green Lantern. “So, you know, there’s been mutual interest with myself and DC for many years to find the right character,” he responded. “I, like everyone here in the room, love superheroes. So there’s been mutual interest with us for years, and we’ve been having ongoing discussions, myself and DC, for years about the right character, what the right character would be. That’s another thing, too: It had to be right.”

On top of that there was apparently three criteria that he gave to DC for the character he would play. One of the post interesting ones being that he could challenge Superman on a power level. Check out the list of qualities below:

dwayne-the-rock-johnson-hospital“The first quality we were looking for was that he had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on,” he said. “What that does for me as an actor and the studio is it gives us space that we can explore; his complexities.

“The other quality was that he had to – the character we were looking for had to be well-known but never brought to life. Then what that does again as an actor, it gives me a little bit of space, and we talked about personality. It just gives me a chance to put an imprint into his personality, with the set of tools that I could bring to the table and put a very unique twist on his personality, but still pay homage to who he is.”

“The third thing, and most important, is he had to be a badass motherfucker, OK, and on a Superman level of power, where [he] could throw down.”

It will be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out. Based on what Johnson said, I still have no idea who he could be playing. Green Lantern, Darkseid, Shazam or even Lobo just to name a few could be possibilites. However, one thing is for sure, Johnson has his character and it sounds like we will be learning who it is very soon. UPDATE: There is a little more to the discussion. Apparently it was a roundtable and Collider has the res of the lowdown. Johnson was asked if we will hear who the character around Comic Con in July because that would give him plenty of time, to which he replied, Yeah, I think time, man! We need to find a writer. When is that, June? July? Yeah, possibly. So how about that?” He had to be well-known. He also said that it’s a possibility that he would cameo in an upcoming DC film, but that him and the studio hasn’t discussed it.
